The Rundown on Cryolipolysis

It's a New Year! And perhaps a new you? Maybe your New Year's Resolution this year is to exercise, eat more healthily, and lose weight. And you're not alone – 40% of people in the UK put "losing weight" as their New Year's resolution. Here at NU-U Laser and Aesthetics, we, unfortunately, can't help you with the first two! Fat loss, however, is within our remit!

Fat freezing (cryolipolysis)

Maybe you have been dieting and exercising for a long time and there are areas of your body where that fat will not budge. Perhaps it's a double chin, a slight muffin top, a tiny bit of wobble on your belly or gently bulging underarms. Liposuction is an option, but it is a surgical procedure that can be risky and involves downtime. Fat freezing might be the thing for you!

Fat freezing is also called cryolipolysis. It is a non-surgical technique that uses cold temperatures to destroy fat cells and permanently remove them. Because the temperature reduction to the stubborn area is controlled and gradual, and fat cells are more sensitive to temperature than skin cells, it does not harm the skin or tissue around the target area.

Why did fat freezing start?

The treatment started after research into frostbite showed that fat freezes long before skin does. The process is painless and requires no downtime.

The fat in the target area becomes damaged, and the body absorbs the dead fat cells and excretes them as urine over a few weeks! It is a non-invasive procedure and, did we mention that the results are permanent?

How to maintain your results

Depending on the area treated, one treatment can result in up to four inches of fat loss! However, Maintaining your healthy lifestyle choices after treatment is a must because, although the fat removed in your chosen area will be gone for good, it doesn't mean that you can't gain fat in other areas!

What does cryolipolysis feel like? Will it hurt?

During cryolipolysis, you may feel sucking, pulling, or tugging. It may cause the area to be red or sore for a short time so wearing loose-fitting clothes is important and perhaps taking an over the counter painkiller will help too.

As the damaged fat cells are eliminated from the body via your urine, it is a good idea to drink a lot of water. This will flush your system and help your body remove the fat more quickly! It does take a little time for your body to break down the fat so don't expect instantaneous results. It can take from two weeks to six months before you see your final results.

Celebrities who have had fat freezing

If you choose to have cryolipolysis to remove the stubborn areas of fat that are annoying you, you will be in exalted company. Many celebrities are choosing it as their therapy of choice. Among the most notable are Khloe Kardashian, Jennifer Anniston, Molly Sims, Lindsay Lohan and Mariah Carey.
