Choosing Clean: Why Natural Skincare Matters More Than Ever

As many of you know The LAB is located in the heart of the beautiful town of Todmorden, and Todmorden Turns Pink is now in full swing — a month of local fundraising, connection, and conversation in support of Cancer Research UK. It’s a powerful community effort that gets us all thinking more deeply about prevention, awareness, and the choices we make every day.
One of the conversations I often have with clients in clinic is about what we’re really putting on our skin — and whether certain ingredients are doing us more harm than good.
The Problem with Parabens and Synthetics
A growing number of mainstream beauty and skincare products still contain parabens — synthetic preservatives used to prolong shelf life and prevent the growth of bacteria.
But here’s what’s important to know: Parabens are now classified as Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs), meaning they can interfere with hormone function. Research published by Breast Cancer UK has shown:
Parabens have been found in body fluids and breast tissue
Lab studies suggest they can mimic oestrogen and increase the risk of mammary tumours in animals
While human studies are still limited, scientists agree we should reduce our exposure wherever possible
These ingredients are absorbed through the skin and build up over time. It’s not about fear — it’s about awareness. Choosing paraben-free skincare is a simple, proactive step toward better health.
The Rise of All-Natural Skincare
There’s a definite shift happening — and it’s not a passing trend. More people are reaching for cleaner, simpler skincare made with plant-based ingredients and minimal processing.
Clients tell me they want to know what’s in the bottle, how it’s been sourced, and how it might affect their body long-term. And rightly so. We don’t need complicated, chemical-heavy products to have great skin. What we need is transparency, integrity, and results without compromise.
A Brand That Reflects These Values
This is exactly why I chose to bring Fior Skincare into NU-U LAB.
It’s a British, female-led brand with a focus on certified organic ingredients
No parabens, no synthetics, no GMOs, and no fillers
Every ingredient is of natural origin, ethically sourced, and minimally processed to retain potency
Products are gentle, effective, and designed with skin health in mind
If you're looking to reduce your exposure to synthetics and switch to skincare that truly aligns with your values, I'm here to help guide you.
This month especially, as Todmorden turns pink in support of such an important cause, I think it’s worth remembering: what we put on our bodies matters.
And you don’t have to sacrifice performance to protect your skin or your

health.
