How NU-U LAB Was Born

Everyone has a story about their success. Anyone who tells you it was easy, has a filter on their life – as it never is. I am not shy of what led me to where I am today, and nor should you be.

I started my business in a purpose-built cupboard under the stairs of my ex-husband's tattoo studio. We were initially Black Stone Tattoo and Black Stone Laser Clinic. I studied for the basic qualification and bought my first Q Switch Nd Yag laser for tattoo removal.

I had recently left a job as a business development manager for a prestigious law firm in South Manchester and was desperate for a change.

It took some time to fully understand the theory and practice of operating a laser. Once I began to study further and look deeper into the science and capabilities of laser tech, I was almost afraid of it but obsessed!

It took a couple of years to get to grips with the tech, and I advanced into laser hair removal, which was my natural progression; however, offering discrete laser hair removal to ladies in a very male environment proved challenging! I worked long and late hours to accommodate my female friends and clients whilst honing my craft. The diode (TRUE DIODE - not a revamped version / multi-frequency laser) frequently sold and marketed as a diode was uncomfortable and time-consuming, so I quickly updated my lasers. I moved to IPL laser for hair removal, which offers better results with considerably less downtime and pain.

I purchased a medical-grade IPL laser that is still consistently one of the best-performing lasers on the market to date. HPT had 20 years of experience in the industry at this point, and the results are still incredible  (since it rebranded). Being able to offer complete body laser hair removal in under an hour with no pain was a game changer! In just eight sessions, it was EPIC. Small laser tech companies are often overlooked for big brands with a ton of PR and endorsement behind them… using a British-made, British-manufactured laser company was a no-brainer. And I am still achieving the same results today as I did eight years ago!!!

I then branched out into body sculpting, aka cryolipolysis.

From here, it just snowballed. I studied further, moved premises and in lockdown, NU-U Laser and Aesthetics was created. My ex-husband and I had separated, and I wanted a new image and look for the business. I purchased the OMNI Facial-HydraFacial machine and moved into HIFU.

The business expanded rapidly, and I outgrew the premises and found my home on Albert Street in Hebden Bridge.

I quietly studied for my aesthetics qualifications, having had bad experiences with aesthetics practitioners. This is a particularly cutthroat industry, and I paid the price for being so naive.

I had no choice but to raise my A-game and get real with it. My dear friends championed me to go for it…. and I did.

I am now:

Level 4 and 5 Anatomy and Physiology for Laser, Fractional, LED, and ablative laser.

Level 6 Laser Technician

Level 6 Advanced Aesthetics Practitioner

Diploma in Higher Education - menopause wellness

Currently studying for level 7 AnP

Last month, I rebranded to NU-U LAB -  a safe space that provides a holistic approach to ageing and transitioning. Still based in Hebden Bridge, but now working with people across the UK – I have a team working with me that provides a discrete one-to-one laser, aesthetics, and wellbeing service. Clients receive expert advice and support from dedicated experts in hormone health and wellbeing throughout their journey.
