For years the beauty and aesthetics industry has come under much scrutiny and has been subjected to much negative press of late. The medic V non medic dispute rages on and we are close to the final aesthetics reforms which are set to be announced in early spring 2024.
Now I have no desire whatsoever to get into any wrangling with anyone over who is best served to provide great aesthetics. Medically trained nurses and doctors have the advantage over non medics from a general anatomical and physiological educational perspective, although a great non medic aesthetician will have also all of the relevant qualifications under their belt as well as 24/7 experience as this is what we do ... all day ... every day,
I am a non medic. I speak for myself and my own journey.
I have spent 7 years building a great reputation and have continually studied and trained with only CQC accredited training schools throughout my career. (They won best training academy in the north at this years National Beauty Awards) For me it was important to choose a training school that provided excellent support after the course finishes and who's quality of training was UK recognised.
Like any other profession, experience on the job is where the real training happens for both medic and non medic clinics, but for some of us, this is our day to day lives. Providing excellent quality aesthetics and is my passion. I live, eat, sleep, breathe, blog laser and aesthetics and wellness.
From time to time I have brought on board other practitioners, but what age and experience has taught me is, that you start to lose the personal element and connection with your clients, which for me is at the heart of what I do.
I feel privileged to be a part of all my clients personal growth journey. The majority of my clients are 40+ and for many it is the start of discovering personal self love and the notion of self care. Children, life, ageing, ageing parents, intense jobs and a lack of personal v work life balance is often what propels a client into bravely stepping through the door to ask the questions that are most personal (and at times embarrassing) to them as they realise that they desperately need some attention too.
Saggy skin, muffin top hips, adult acne, low libido, ageing skin, tired under eyes, lack of energy, hairy buttocks.... you name it.. I deal with it. And I have for 7 years now.
Here's the thing,.... NOTHING SHOCKS ME. I wholly understand each and every client's deepest insecurities.For a lot of clients the idea of self love and self care feels almost too... well .. self indulgent. Of course when there are terrible atrocities happening all over the world, the idea of having your bottom lasered can almost seem silly.But if this insecurity is holding you back... from personal relationships to public speaking... then don't you think it is worth addressing?
Feeling held back and having insecurities can be crippling ... I know.. I spent many many years with low self esteem and chronic anxiety. When I began to invest in my physical, emotional and mental health I realised I was growing and began to move mountains.
I am now in the very fortunate position to be able to pass this on to my clients.And for this reason I decided to keep NU-U small, and to nourish the foundations it was built on. One to one support in a safe, comfortable, well educated well established clinic.
I also run a women in business networking event to provide support and help for other women with small businesses.
I have fabulous women to support me... really fabulous women. Rebecca Higson my dear friend with the most brilliant mind, and who owns Valley PR and my ride or die Elaine Herbert who single handedly made it possible to be public on line with my website and my blogs. I think without the right support in place the journey... whatever that is can be really lonely. Feeling supported allows me to work to my best ability and give that support back to my clients.
The clinic foundations are simple
Honest advice - ALWAYS. I turn away many people who are not suitable candidates or suggest better alternatives to what they may be thinking, in order to serve them better
Realistic expectations - Managing your expectations is key and being honest about what is achievable is paramount to your journey.
Affordable pricing - despite the escalating costs in utilities, insurance, courses etc I have tried to maintain reasonable prices to make all the treatments affordable. You can now spread the costs too.
Safe Practice - The clinic has been constantly and consistently updated as have the practices and processes. Training and education is the key. Here are my theory qualifications:
I am a fully qualified advanced aesthetics practitioner for anti wrinkle treatments, fillers and skin treatments... and laser technician with 7 years experience under my belt. It's been a long journey with many obstacles, but a journey that I am very proud of.
